Waringarri Radio 693AM is an Indigenous radio station that strives to be of service to the surrounding communities of predominately Aboriginal people, employing Aboriginal Broadcasters whenever possible it provides a voice for Aboriginal People of the East Kimberley.

The Aboriginal people from Woolah Community have established Doon Doon Roadhouse and Caravan Park as a beacon for travellers in the East Kimberely. The Woolah Community provide an exceptional business to the area, which also highlights the Woolah’s respect and care for their community. |

Outstanding Education Project or Program that encourages Aboriginal Participation
This award recognises Educational Projects or Programs that have contributed towards promoting Aboriginal participation and a positive image of Aboriginal culture and heritage or who have facilitated the development of Aboriginal people with the East Kimberley.
AIEO Attendance Plan
Due to the AIEO Attendance Plan Oombulgurri Remote Community School now has an attendance rate of 90%. This program works in conjunction with the AIEO’s, the local police, APLO’s and the principal of the school — they effectively communicate with parents to encourage school attendance. Sammy Morgan is currently the driving force behind this program, her dedication and commitment is to be commended. |

Quality of engagement with the wider community through leadership in committees, peer assistance, sporting activities, emphasises on volunteer work, professional and personal development.
Nerissa Winton
Nerissa has a passion for her culture and supports a positive change both locally and Kimberley wide. Currently employed as a ALO for Kimberley TAFE in Halls Creek. She devotes much of her spare time to the following: HC Community Reference Group, HC Project Management Committee, Kimberley District Aboriginal Education Advisory Council, Kimberley College of Indigenous Education Strategic Incentives Committee, Crocfest, The Children’s Christmas Pageants, ANZAC day and Oxfam International Youth Partnership. Nerissa is a sole parent of her beautiful 7 year old daughter.

Stephanie Trust
Stephanie graduated from Wyndham District High School and furthered her studies as an enrolled nurse. With the support of family friends in 2006 Stephanie graduated as a doctor from UWA with a bachelor of medicine and surgery. She is the first Aboriginal person to graduate as a doctor in the East Kimberley and is a great example to young indigenous people that if you have determination you can achieve anything.

Carl Peterson
Carl developed his sporting skills from a young age growing up in Kununurra. After completing year 11 at KDHS he went on to finish yr 12 with Clontarf Football Academy, he’s played a number of games for Claremont reserves in one game kicking 5 goals. In 2006 Carl started as a rookie with Richmond Football Club. Carl is an example of someone with commitment and the right support being able to achieve his dreams.

Trish leads the way for many Halls Creek residents for being a great positive role model, actively involved with many community groups and sporting organisations. She is the Halls Creek Shire President, an Aboriginal Educational Teacher and always has her finger on the pulse. |

Kim Griffiths
Kim has developed a strong knowledge of art and his culture and is proud and committed to sharing and increasing other peoples understanding of art and culture. Kim works at Waringarri Arts, is involved with the Mirima dancers, and recently trained at the Qld Art Gallery. |

Gawooleng Yawoodeng Aboriginal Corporation & Neighbourhood House
Gawooleng Yawoodeng Aboriginal Corporation is non profit local indigenous women’s organization providing crisis accommodation and related support services for Aboriginal and non indigenous women and children escaping family and domestic violence. They have developed a 10 yr partnership with Neighbourhood House. Together they run projects such as Grab a Granny Day, Ngala Positive Parenting Week, Meeting Place Project and The Over 55’s. Through this relationship Neighbourhood House has increased Aboriginal participation in programs and access to services by 95%. |

Reginald Birch
Reginald has inspired leadership and is responsible for nurturing the future of many individuals. Two generations of women and men after him continually seek his guidance, aspirations, references, language, land, cultural knowledge and his special brand of wisdom. |

Best Apprentice or Trainee of the Year
This award will recognise an individual who has completed or is due to complete their apprenticeship or traineeship within the 2007 calendar year. This person should show career progress due to training, have applied themselves to their studies and have achieved personal goals and have career aspirations.
Adam Griffiths
Adam has been an outstanding trainee and now an employee with Triple J tours. He has overcome learning difficulties by attending extra sessions at TAFE. He successfully completed his Cert II in Tourism, obtained his restricted Coxswain ticket and is now skippering a 48 seat tour boat. |

Employer of Aboriginal People of the Year
This award will be presented to an enterprise that demonstrates outstanding commitment and excellence in the provision of training and employing Aboriginal people.
Kimberley Group Training
Kimberly Group Training provides indigenous, non- indigenous and disadvantaged groups with training and apprenticeship opportunities. In 2007, 141 Host Employers across the Kimberley employed a total of 251 apprentices, trainees and school based trainees. Stats show that 159 of these are either Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander. The KGT successful mandate has enabled trainees and apprentices to seek out and maintain skilled employment, thus contributing to the positive growth of the community. |

Non-Indigenous Person of the Year
This award recognises an individual who has made a significant contribution to Aboriginal affairs or the quality of life of Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley.
Don & Meg Shedley
Don and Meg Shedley have proven to be an example of how individuals can make a lasting impact on a community. They have been involved in Aboriginal development specifically in the area of education and youth mentoring support for the last 45 years. Their initiative was founded from their own resources and was provided at a time when there was limited assistance of this nature for Aboriginal students and families from remote areas. The Shedley’s have taken a proactive role in the education and future building of Aboriginal youth living in the East Kimberly. |

Trish McKay
Trish makes an outstanding contribution to the day to day life of Halls Creek by being a tireless worker for young people, sports and the community. Trish is involved with many sporting groups and activities in the town of Halls Creek and is more then willing to lend a hand. She is a great role model and inspiration to many. It is leaders like Trish that give us all someone to aspire to.

EKAAA HALL FAME
The EKAAA Hall of Fame has been created to inspire all Aboriginal people, by recognising and awarding the outstanding leadership and achievements of our greatest community members, and encouraging everyone, young and old, to reach their personal potential. Honouring the “quiet achievers’” and “leaders” who continually give back to the community in so many different ways.
The 2007 Hall of Fame was kindly sponsored by Argyle Diamond Mine. Argyle plays an integral part in the Awards and with out their support over the past few years the awards would not have grown to what they are today.

Wundargoodie Aboriginal Safaris
Owned and operated by the Morgan Family, the company was established in 1994 and has grown from strength to strength. Wundargoodie offers its clients a unique experience of the Kimberley and regularly caters for groups from universities, colleges and schools as well specialised tours for families and individuals. The success of Wundargoodie owes itself to hard work, determination and a love and belief in the product and the Kimberley area.

This award seeks to celebrate the strength of Aboriginal families by recognising one such family that stands out in the way the family group nurtures stability and achievement, both within the family and through its role in the community.
Morgan Family (Colin & Maria Morgan and children)
Colin and Maria Morgan have 5 children – within the family they run Wundargoodie Safaris, Morgan’s Charters, work for ADM, work for DFACS and are involved with Joorook and Save the Children. Colin and Maria have instilled a strong sense of family intheir children and an obvious positive work ethic. On top of this Maria has donated her kidney to her son, who is now successful in his life and work.

Marjorie Hunter
Marjorie has been a very important member of the Wyndham community since her arrival in 1975. She has opened her own home to those experiencing difficulties at home and to homeless children, provided a Meals on Wheels service, worked for CommunityServices, managed Bulungarr Hostel and was a founding member of the Wyndham Amenities Club. Her dedication and motivation is an inspiration for all who hold dealings with her.
