Today marked the official launch of Gardim-banjelng Badang Yarrawoo Menewoolbtha (“Growing Strong Roots for Strong Futures”), a much-needed early learning service for Kununurra families.
The event was attended by community leaders and special guests including Lawford Benning (MG Corporation), Ian Trust (Wunan Foundation), Commissioner Jacqueline McGowan-Jones, Divina D’Anna MLA, Karri Hillier (One Tree Community Services), and Prue Jenkins (Wunan Foundation). Centre Director Danielle Taylor guided guests through a tour of the new facility, which is already supporting families with high-quality, culturally safe education and care for children aged 0-5.
Delivered in partnership between MG Corporation, Wunan Foundation and One Tree Community Services, this initiative provides 38 childcare places with future plans for expansion. It also invests in the local workforce through accredited training, mentoring and employment pathways, while ensuring Aboriginal families have priority access to culturally appropriate early education.
This centre represents more than childcare, it is about nurturing the youngest members of our community in a way that respects culture, strengthens families, and builds strong futures for the East Kimberley.
