Halls Creek Education and Attainment Initiative

The Halls Creek Education and Attainment Initiative supports Aboriginal children and young people to engage in education and improve school attendance and learning outcomes.

Delivered by Wunan Foundation, the initiative uses culturally informed, community-led approaches to strengthen relationships between students, families, schools and the wider Halls Creek community. It recognises that improving education outcomes requires local solutions shaped by the people who understand their community best.

A community-led approach to education

Wunan works in partnership with young people, parents, carers, families, schools and community stakeholders to identify and address barriers to education.

The initiative focuses on:

• Strengthening relationships between families, young people and schools
• Supporting students to engage or re-engage with education
• Addressing barriers that affect school attendance and participation
• Promoting the value of education across the community
• Developing flexible, strengths-based solutions informed by local knowledge
• Connecting students and families with other services and supports

By bringing families, schools and community partners together, the initiative helps create a coordinated network of support around each young person.

The Halls Creek Education and Attainment Initiative forms part of the Australian Government’s Education Engagement and Attainment Initiatives, which invest in community-designed approaches to improving education engagement and outcomes for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
