Talent Pool Academy
The Talent Pool Academy is creating new pathways to employment for young people in the East Kimberley.
Delivered in partnership with Royal Life Saving WA, this exciting initiative equips local Aboriginal youth with the skills, training, and confidence they need to take the first steps into the workforce. Since launching in October 2024, the program has been rolled out across aquatic and recreation centres in Kununurra, Wyndham, and Halls Creek.
Led by the Wunan Foundation, the Talent Pool Academy offers hands-on training and mentoring in roles such as pool lifeguarding, swim instruction, recreation services, and pool operations. Participants gain access to both accredited and non-accredited training, culturally appropriate support, and paid work experience in their communities.
Already proven successful in the West Kimberley, Pilbara, and Goldfields, the Talent Pool Academy enables young people to gain qualifications such as First Aid, Bronze Medallion, and Pool Lifeguard. Plans are also underway to expand the program to Remote Pool communities in Warmun, Balgo, and Kalumburu.
This initiative is supported by the WA Government’s Department of Training and Workforce Development through the Aboriginal Employment Enabling Program (AEEP).
By investing in the potential of our youth, the Talent Pool Academy is building stronger futures and vibrant communities across the East Kimberley.
