Early Years Support Program

The Wunan Foundation delivers programs designed to support parents and caregivers in their important role as their child's first educators. These programs help families build strong foundations for learning, wellbeing and development before children begin formal schooling.

Research shows that 90 per cent of a child's brain develops by the age of three, making the early years a critical time for learning, growth and development. Through a range of early childhood initiatives, Wunan works alongside families to support healthy childhood development, school readiness and lifelong learning.

By investing in children and families early, Wunan is helping create stronger educational outcomes and brighter futures for young people across the East Kimberley.

Child & Parent Centres (CPCs)

Wunan Foundation manages the Child & Parent Centres (CPCs) in Kununurra and Halls Creek in partnership with the Western Australian Department of Education.

The Child & Parent Centres support families as they begin laying the foundations for their children's development, learning and wellbeing. Through a welcoming and culturally safe environment, families can access programs, services and activities that encourage early learning while strengthening family and community connections.

Programs and activities available through the Kununurra and Halls Creek Child & Parent Centres include:

  • Playgroups and early learning activities
  • School holiday programs
  • KindiLink programs delivered in partnership with local schools
  • Health and wellbeing programs delivered with local service providers
  • Cultural programs and performances
  • Family education and support initiatives
  • Pick-up and drop-off services
  • Community events and family engagement activities

These activities provide opportunities for families to connect with one another, learn new skills, access support services and help prepare children for a successful transition to school.

The Child & Parent Centres play an important role in supporting children, families and communities by promoting early childhood development, school readiness and stronger family engagement in education.
