Wunan Foundation will receive more than $3.2 million from the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing to deliver a new integrated alcohol and other drug service through Wunan Health.
The funding is being provided through the Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Services Fund - East Kimberley Region and brokered by Binarri-binyja yarrawoo Aboriginal Corporation (BBY).
Under its funding agreement with BBY, Wunan Health will establish an Integrated Drug and Alcohol Case Management and Capacity Building Service. Based in Kununurra, the service will provide culturally safe, person-centred support and strengthen access to coordinated care across the wider East Kimberley region.
In a further investment in long-term recovery, funding from the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing will support the construction of three new three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes for clients exiting Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre (KWIC) withdrawal services.
The homes will be built on a newly acquired block adjacent to Wunan Health, creating a stronger pathway from withdrawal services into stable accommodation and ongoing, coordinated support.
Together, these initiatives will strengthen culturally safe, person-centred care and build stronger connections across the local service system, helping people access support closer to home and continue their recovery with greater stability.
“This investment represents a significant step forward in building a more integrated and sustainable alcohol and other drug service system for the East Kimberley. By connecting culturally safe treatment, coordinated support and stable accommodation, we can create stronger pathways from withdrawal through to long-term recovery.” said Prue Jenkins, Chief Executive Officer, Wunan Foundation.
Wunan Foundation welcomes the opportunity to work closely with BBY, local services and communities as the new service is established.
