The hub is part of the Pilbara Kimberley University Centres network, which supports students across the Pilbara and Kimberley to access higher education without having to relocate.
For many people in the East Kimberley, studying on campus in Perth or other cities isn’t realistic. Distance, cost, family and community responsibilities can make it hard to take that step. Having a local study space with facilities and support removes some of those barriers.
Wunan welcomes initiatives like this that strengthen access to education in the region and support people to build skills and qualifications while staying connected to community and Country.
Bringing the hub to life has been a true community effort, with guidance from an Advisory Board featuring key local organisations including the Wunan Foundation, Job Pathways, Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley, Shire of Halls Creek, Kimberley Development Commission, East Kimberley Chamber of Commerce and Industry, East Kimberley College, North Regional TAFE, and the Mirima Dawang Woorlab-gerring Language and Culture Centre.
