Kununurra, Western Australia - The Wunan Foundation is proud to announce a significant funding boost of $60,000 for the upcoming 2025 East Kimberley Aboriginal Achievement Awards, thanks to the support of the Western Australian Government through Lotterywest.

The biennial event, set to take place on Saturday, 9 August 2025 at the Kununurra Picture Gardens, is a cornerstone celebration of Aboriginal excellence across the East Kimberley region. The newly awarded funding will support the delivery of an unforgettable evening of cultural pride, connection, and recognition —one that brings the community together in honour of local achievement.

“This investment is a testament to the importance of celebrating the incredible contributions of Aboriginal people in our region,” said Prue Jenkins, CEO of the Wunan Foundation. “The Awards have grown into a vital platform for recognising excellence and inspiring the next generation. We are grateful to Lotterywest and the Premier of Western Australia for making this possible.”

Lotterywest has approved the funding under its Community Investment Framework, recognising the event’s contribution to raising community connection and participation by bringing people together in a shared celebration of success and identity.

Since their establishment in 2001, the East Kimberley Aboriginal Achievement Awards have honoured outstanding individuals, groups, and organisations in fields such as community service, education, arts and culture, health, business, and sport. Each award celebrates stories of resilience, leadership, and innovation that deserve to be amplified and applauded.

“The Awards are more than just a ceremony. They are a moment of collective pride and a reminder of the power of community,” said Ms Jenkins. “It’s where we come together to celebrate culture, recognise achievements, and create positive momentum for the future.”

This year’s event will feature live performances, cultural showcases, keynote speakers, and a community dinner. Nominations for the awards are now open and will close on 7 July 2025.
