Every July, NAIDOC Week is celebrated across Australia to recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This year marked the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC, with the theme “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.” The theme recognises the strength of our young people, the vision of our communities, and the legacy passed down through generations.
The week began with the NAIDOC March through the streets of Kununurra, where the whole community walked together in strength and unity to kick off NAIDOC Week 2025.
Wunan was proud to host two events to mark the week. In Kununurra, our annual Big Community Breakfast brought together families, children and young people, local services and community for a morning of food, activities, and connection. In Halls Creek, our Child and Parent Centre joined the celebrations, with families coming together to enjoy a day of culture and community in our beautiful new garden space.
There was a huge line-up of events happening across town all week long, from junior football and basketball comps to a bush tucker day, movie night, and the Junior NAIDOC Ball, there was something for everyone. Lily Lagoon Resort Kununurra was proud to host the Junior Ball, with young ones showing up looking sharp and shining bright. The Youth Hub and 54 Reasons helped everyone get ready and arrive safely, and DJ Jadang Lulkbudia brought the tunes, a great way to close out the week!
Thank you to all the staff and community members who helped make these events such a success.
We stand strong with our communities and our young people, our next generation of leaders.
